At Vinh Long, some 60 miles southwest of Saigon, Republic of Vietnam (RVN) troops board U.S. Army UH-1B Iroquois helicopters for a flight to a remote area in the Mekong River delta where Viet Cong activity is reported. Like its sister units in Vietnam, the 114th Aviation Company supports Vietnamese government forces combating communist insurgents.

The helicopter has proven to be the single most useful instrument the Vietnamese have in finding and fixing the elusive Viet Cong The Turbine-powered UH-1's - soldiers call them Huey's - each carry eight RVN soldiers as they zip over flooded rice paddies to the objective. Depending on the situation, the Huey's fly at high altitudes out of range of the enemy gunfire or streak along at about 90 miles per hour just above the ground.
