114th Aviation Company |
Monument Constructed and Installed
Dated: March 18,2019 Dear Fellow Knights, As you know, the 114th Aviation Company had a historic and vital role in the Vietnam War, from early 1963 until 1972. The unit was the “First” in many of the annals of Army Aviation in that war and set precedents for others to follow. The valor of the men who served is attested to by numerous individual and unit awards. As a result, during the business meeting at the last reunion, the membership authorized the executive council to pursue a suitable monument to be constructed and installed at Fort Rucker.   On April 11, 2019, a monument to the company, the individual platoons, and the attached units will be dedicated at the Veterans Park, located next to the Army Aviation Museum at Ft. Rucker. The front of the monument has the patches of the individual units and the rear has the names of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The service will begin at 10:00 on Thursday morning. Afterward, there will be a gathering in the museum with light refreshments. The Fairfield Inn (334-348-1580) or the Hampton Inn (334-347-5763), both in Enterprise, Ala are conveniently located to the site. There are several other motels/hotels in the area that are very nice and convenient also. If you were in the unit or one of the attached/supporting elements, or are a surviving relative on one who served, you are more than welcome to join with us next month in honoring and remembering this remarkable unit and the men who made it all possible. Ft. Rucker is assisting us and needs a head count, so if you and your guest are coming, please shoot me an email at jimhaslitt@cox.net or a text to 225-936-8488. I look forward to seeing many of you as we honor the memory of the unit, all who served and especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice. National Director
